Your Right to Data Deletion

Under the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), you have certain rights regarding your personal information held by Freedom Financing. This page explains how you can request the deletion of your personal data and what this process involves.

Important: As a finance broker, we may be required to retain certain information for legal and regulatory compliance. This page explains what can be deleted and what must be retained.

What Data Can Be Deleted

Information We Can Delete:

  • Marketing Preferences: Email marketing lists and communication preferences
  • Website Data: Cookies, browsing history, and website analytics data
  • Non-Essential Contact Information: Secondary email addresses and phone numbers
  • Optional Personal Details: Preferences, interests, and non-financial personal information
  • Account Access: Login credentials and user account data
  • Communication Logs: Non-essential email and phone conversation records

Legal and Regulatory Requirements

As an Australian Credit Licensee, we are required by law to retain certain information:

  • Loan Applications: Credit applications and supporting documentation (7 years)
  • Financial Records: Income verification, bank statements, asset documentation
  • Identity Verification: Documents used to verify your identity
  • Credit Assessments: Responsible lending assessments and decisions
  • Compliance Records: Records required under NCCP Act and ASIC regulations
  • Transaction Records: Records of financial services provided
  • Dispute Records: Complaints and resolution documentation

How to Request Data Deletion

Step 1: Submit Your Request

Step 2: Identity Verification

To protect your privacy and prevent unauthorized deletion requests, we need to verify your identity. Please provide:

  • Full name as provided to Freedom Financing
  • Date of birth
  • Email address or phone number associated with your account
  • Recent interaction reference (loan application, quote reference, etc.)

Step 3: Review and Confirmation

Once we receive your request:

  1. Acknowledgment: We'll confirm receipt within 1 business day
  2. Assessment: We'll review what data can be legally deleted (5-10 business days)
  3. Report: We'll provide a detailed report of what will be deleted vs. retained
  4. Confirmation: You confirm you want to proceed with the deletion
  5. Deletion: We'll delete the eligible data and confirm completion

What to Expect

  • Day 1: Request acknowledgment
  • Days 2-10: Data assessment
  • Day 11: Deletion report provided
  • Days 12-15: Data deletion (if confirmed)
  • Day 16: Completion confirmation
After Deletion
  • Marketing communications stopped
  • Website tracking data removed
  • Optional personal data deleted
  • Account access disabled
  • Written confirmation provided

  • Deleting your data may affect our ability to provide future services

  • Previous service history and preferences will be lost

Exceptions to Deletion

We may decline deletion requests if:

  • Legal or regulatory requirements mandate data retention
  • Information is needed for ongoing legal proceedings
  • Data is required for legitimate business operations
  • Deletion would compromise the rights of other individuals
  • Information is necessary for freedom of expression or information

Partial Deletion

In many cases, we can offer partial deletion where:

  • Non-essential personal information is removed
  • Marketing and communication preferences are deleted
  • Required regulatory information is retained but isolated
